After every tragedy, leave it to politicians to try to capitalize on the event to push their agendas. Two anti-gun senators are introducing legislation to make it harder to purchase large amounts of ammunition online "anonymously." I don't know about you, but when I have purchased online, I've had to give my name, credit card information, shipping address, and have had to prove that I'm old enough to buy ammunition. I'm not sure how that is "anonymous" but many Americans will just believe what they read in the Huffington Post, and rant at work about how easy it is to buy "assault rifles" and ammunition. We can only hope that common sense will prevail and law-abiding citizens won't be punished for the actions of one. Part of being in a Republic is contacting your senators and letting them know you won't be blamed for the actions of one evil man.
I had the pleasure of teaching a private class today in a beautiful home near Lincoln. Most people in the group were friends, which made for a good day. They had lots of great questions, and several had read through the entire curriculum in advance (a rare occurrence). We hadn't even made it off of the introductions slide when the questions started... and those of you who know that I'm a teacher, know that this was my favorite kind of group! The class was a lot of fun, we had a lot of laughs, and talked about many very serious issues. It ran longer than I normally teach (sorry about that everyone!) but I felt like we really got into what it means to be a concealed carry permit holder. So if you were at today's class a
A buddy of mine posted this picture of Facebook, and it got me thinking about good people and evil people:
There are more good people than evil. But we've trained ourselves, as a society, for the good people who aren't police or military to stand aside. As a society, we must refuse to let the actions of a few demented individuals to dictate the law of the land... they will not suffer, the rest of us will. Evil men will flaunt the law and try to inflict fear and terror no matter what the government says. It is up to the rest of us to stand up for what is right to defeat evil. Evil men should go about their business in fear of good... that the next house they break into could have an armed homeowner inside... that the next mugging victim could have a pistol in her waistband... that the next movie theater could have armed patrons inside... that the next mall be filled with CCW permit holders going about their business. Evil will never fear government. Evil should fear the good people of this nation.
Have a good week everyone,
A man walked into the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and started shooting. It looks like 12 dead and 59 injured. Our sympathies go out to the victims and families. Story here.
I give it 48-72 hours before every anti-gun politician, the Brady Campaign, and Bloomberg use this as a springboard to further limit law-abiding citizens' rights to keep and bear arms. How many of Mayor Bloomberg's guards do you think are packing heat? All of them.
Let's be honest about the situation. Bad guys will find ways to hurt innocent people. Criminals, by definition, flaunt the law, and will not follow ANY anti-gun limits set by governments, anywhere. Research shows that lawfully armed citizens are a deterrent to crime. More guns with more law abiding citizens = less crime. Period.
Even with police working at the theater last night, this guy found a way in and had time, reportedly, to empty magazines and reload. More limits aren't the answer, more people taking responsibility for the defense of themselves and their families... that's what we need.
I'm getting involved in a new educational opportunity in firearms training in the state of Nebraska, being set up by the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association, the NFOA. Right now there is a lot of discussion about what would be useful for both gun owners and non-owners in the state. We have looked at a website called TrainMeAZ.com as a model of the type of 'portal' we could offer to people looking for education and training in the state. What kind of things would you like to see in training resources? Email or use the contact form to let me know!
It looks like a retired couple is going to open an indoor range in Lincoln. This one sounds pretty cool, if all of their plans actually become reality. Article here
Uh-oh. I've discovered a website with some cool stuff for men and women. GunGoddess.com I ordered a custom engraved Glock slide cover. I had a question about the image I wanted to use, so I used the contact form and had a response within 5 minutes! Check them out!
The article I'm posting here is about the safety issues if you are trying to "speed holster." There is NO need to reholster quickly... do it slowly and safely!
The recommendation from the article is to follow these three steps (my paraphrase)
1) Never, ever speed holster
2) Always follow the same post-shooting sequence

According to this article, most occur during the day when criminals think nobody is home, or the people at home won't present difficulty. It really makes you think about the choice to carry only when you leave your home or all the time so you are able to defend yourself and family even if the unexpected happens and someone breaks in while you are home.

As a husband and father, I'm interested in anything that helps educate me in the area of self-defense, and I'm always watching for products that help me be prepared.
